Regarding Wangchuk’s continued fast, CJP founder Abhijit Dipke told reporters at Jantar Mantar, “Yesterday Sonam Wangchuk was about to end her fast. We had persuaded her with great difficulty. Yesterday was the 23rd day of her fast. With great difficulty we had persuaded her to break her fast… We had said Sir (Wangchuk) please break your fast. We are not in danger of your life or yours.” You are very valuable to this country, but after seeing the cruelty of the police, he has announced that he will not call off his fast.

Dipke said, ‘I had talked to his doctor and his wife that his body can tolerate a fast of only 20-21 days. When he was here, his weight was decreasing and the doctor had then said that in three-four days his organs could also get damaged. The decision taken by Sonam sir yesterday was wrong, we did not want her to do this. It is very sad that he had to extend his fast. He has said that in view of the cruelty of the police, they used batons on the children who tortured them. Seeing that, they will continue their fast.”
