New Delhi: Famous social activists from Ladakh Sonam Wangchuk The Delhi High Court has refused to grant immediate relief on a plea to shift him to a private hospital. During a hearing on Sunday, the court dismissed a plea seeking his release from Safdarjung Hospital and shifting to Medanta Hospital in Gurugram. The High Court explained that the government’s decision to hospitalize Wangchuk as his condition deteriorated was entirely appropriate and consistent with medical necessity.

During the hearing, a bench headed by Justice Mini Pushkarna observed that the medical condition of the human body does not remain constant. In such serious cases, the court has to consider the prevailing situation and wider public interest. The court accepted that the government took prompt steps to hospitalize Wangchuk when his condition deteriorated.

Sonam Wangchuk : New controversy over Sonam Wangchuk’s health; The wife directly knocked on the door of the High Court

Earlier, the petitioner Dr. Geetanjali J. Senior advocate Kapil Sibal, appearing for Angmo, had argued that Wangchuk was being prevented from meeting his personal doctor and lawyer at Safdarjung Hospital. Stating that Medanta Hospital is ready to admit them and can send an ambulance for it, Sibal requested the court to allow them to be shifted.

Meanwhile, Additional Solicitor General (ASG) Chetan Sharma, representing the central government, assured the court that a team of senior doctors from Safdarjung and AIIMS (AIIMS) was monitoring Wangchuk’s condition round the clock. Accepting the government’s argument, the court clarified that Sonam Wangchuk is not in police or government custody and her family has full permission to visit her in the hospital.

The High Court has ordered that all further decisions regarding the treatment of Sonam Wangchuk should be taken after consultation with the doctors. Additionally, the court directed the central government, Delhi Police and the hospital administration to submit a detailed status report on the entire matter within three days.
