Sonam Wangchuk’s wife raised serious questions on the transparency of hospital administration and investigation report, asked for discharge
New Delhi. The matter has heated up after Delhi Police removed environmental activist Sonam Wangchuk, who was on hunger strike, from Jantar Mantar and admitted her to Safdarjung Hospital. According to the health bulletin issued by the hospital, due to prolonged fasting, Wangchuk has been found to be severely dehydrated, falling potassium levels and rapidly increasing ketones, putting him at risk of kidney damage and other serious metabolic problems. Doctors have given strict advice to start treatment, but Wangchuk has flatly refused to take any kind of drip or medicine.

Severe decline in health, refusal of treatment
According to Safdarjung Hospital bulletin, 59-year-old Sonam Wangchuk was brought to the hospital at 7:40 am on Saturday. At the time of admission, he was conscious and his blood pressure and oxygen levels were normal, but he was severely dehydrated. By 1 pm the ketone level in his urine increased from 1+ to 3+, which is very worrying from health point of view. The hospital administration is continuously explaining to his family members so that treatment can be started as soon as possible.
Wife raised questions on transparency, demanded discharge
Meanwhile, Sonam Wangchuk’s wife Gitanjali J. Angmo (wife, Gitanjali J. Angmo) has raised serious questions on the transparency of the hospital administration and investigation report. He posted on social media that according to the report of Safdarjung Hospital, Wangchuk’s potassium level has fallen to 2.9, whereas yesterday it was 4.3. The hospital administration is not allowing us to get a second opinion from any other lab, nor is it giving us blood samples so that we can get the test done outside. Because of this opaqueness we are having doubts. We have sought immediate discharge from the hospital so that we can get him treated at a hospital of our choice, but we have not received any response for the last two hours.
