Brueni, the second-richest country in Southeast Asia by GDP per capita after Singapore, secured 19th place in the 2026 Henley Passport Index, with its passport granting visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 163 destinations.
Brunei shares the place with The Bahamas, marking a slight decline from 2025, when it placed 18th with visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 166 destinations.
Despite the drop of one place and three fewer visa-free destinations, Brunei continues to hold one of the strongest passports in Southeast Asia, behind only Singapore (1st) and Malaysia (7th).

Singapore retained the top spot globally with its passport providing visa-free access to 192 destinations.
Japan ranked second with access to 188 destinations, followed by South Korea, the United Arab Emirates and Sweden in third place with 187 destinations.
The Henley Passport Index tracks global travel freedom across 227 countries and territories, using exclusive data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
It ranks 199 passports based on the number of destinations their holders can enter without obtaining a visa in advance. Updated regularly throughout the year to reflect changes in visa policies, the index is widely regarded as a key measure of global mobility.
