Mumbai: Indian stock markets closed with gains on Thursday amid mixed signals from overseas markets. The BSE Sensex gained 373.76 points (0.48%) to close at 78,954.76, while the NSE Nifty 50 rose 11.35 points (0.05%) to 24,636. However, the broader market witnessed a mixed trend. The Nifty Midcap 50 index declined by 0.51%, while the Smallcap 100 index closed with a gain of 0.48%.

There was a boom in these sectors

Banking and oil and gas stocks saw strong buying during the day, while auto, media, metals, and realty sectors remained under pressure and closed in the red.

Reliance and SBI became the stars of the market

Reliance Industries was the biggest gainer among Sensex stocks, rising nearly 3.5%. State Bank of India (SBI) gained nearly 3%, Bharat Electronics (BEL) gained nearly 2.5%, and ICICI Bank gained more than 2%. Shares of Eternal and Titan also saw strong buying.

These stocks saw the biggest decline

On the other hand, Powergrid shares fell by about 4%. TCS recorded a decline of 2%. Apart from this, shares of Indigo, Mahindra & Mahindra, Maruti Suzuki, NTPC, UltraTech Cement, Tata Steel, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Tech Mahindra, Infosys, Axis Bank and Adani Ports also closed with decline. Experts believe that despite mixed signals from global markets, buying in banking and energy sectors strengthened the domestic market.
