Stock market falls due to rising crude oil prices, Sensex falls 388 points, Nifty below 24500

Mumbai, 11 August. Amidst the ongoing global uncertainty due to other factors including the Strait of Hormuz, the impact of rising crude oil prices was also visible on the local stock market and both the standard indices remained in the red on Tuesday. BSE Sensex fell 388 points while NSE Nifty fell 112 points.

Sensex fell 388.19 points and closed at 78,154.25.

Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE)'s benchmark index Sensex based on 30 shares closed at 78,154.25 points, down 388.19 points or 0.49 per cent. During trading, it fell by 494.18 points or 0.62 percent to 78,048.26 points. Of the Sensex related companies, 25 shares weakened and only five strengthened.

Nifty closed at 24,471.70 with a fall of 112.10 points.

On the other hand, the 50-share sensitive index Nifty of National Stock Exchange (NSE) also closed at 24,471.70 points with a decline of 112.10 points or 0.46 percent. Among the companies associated with Nifty, 13 stocks were in profit while 37 had losses.

UltraTech Cement shares fell the most by 2.75 percent

Among the companies included in the Sensex group, UltraTech Cement's shares fell the most by 2.75 percent. Shares of Axis Bank, InterGlobe Aviation, Bharti Airtel, Bajaj Finance and Power Grid also declined significantly. Whereas shares of Eternal, Infosys, Titan, HCL Tech and Tata Consultancy Services were in profit.

FIIs made net purchase of shares worth Rs 1,974.76 crore

According to stock market data, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) made a net purchase of shares worth Rs 1,974.76 crore on Monday. At the same time, the price of global oil standard Brent crude increased by 2.18 percent to $ 89.63 per barrel.
