Strait of Hormuz Update: America’s big announcement, oil supply will continue even if there is no agreement with Iran
America has taken a big decision regarding the supply of oil around the world. The US Energy Secretary has clearly said that oil will continue to flow through the Strait of Hormuz, whether there is an agreement with Iran or not. This step will strengthen global energy security.

Let us tell you that on June 18, 2026, US President Donald Trump and Iranian President Pezeshkian signed an agreement in Versailles. It was called ‘Islamabad MOU’. Under this agreement, both the countries had agreed to end the fighting and reopen the Strait of Hormuz. In this deal it was decided that no toll would be taken from ships for 60 days and Iran would remove mines from the sea within 30 days.
On June 21, 2026, Energy Secretary Chris Wright informed that the movement of oil and natural gas has now become normal. He made it clear that whatever the further talks, the flow of oil will continue like this. Vice President Vance said that a record 16 million barrels of oil has passed through this route, which is more than the level before the war. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessant also said Iran has promised to keep the route open.
However, some challenges regarding the future still remain. President Trump has warned that if no final agreement is reached after 60 days, the US could exact its own toll in exchange for security services. Additionally, maritime experts say it may take a few months for complete normalcy to return due to mines laid by Iran and stranded ships. Currently, American and Iranian representatives are holding technical talks in Switzerland.
