Sitarganj. A deer which strayed from the UP border and reached the populated area was chased by stray dogs and seriously injured. The villagers and the forest department team tried to save the deer, but it died due to serious injuries on its body. The Forest Department has taken the dead body of the deer in its possession and got the post-mortem done. Wildlife crime has been registered in the case and investigation has been started.
According to the Forest Department, at around 3:30 pm on Tuesday, information was received about a deer lying in an injured condition in Ajitpur village under Baigul Dam beat of Barakoli forest area. Villagers said that the deer had wandered into the populated area and the stray dogs chased it. The deer kept running for a long time to escape from the dogs. During this, the dogs surrounded him and attacked him, due to which he was seriously injured.
As soon as the information about the deer being injured was received, Ranger Ghananand Chaniyal of Barakoli forest area formed a team of forest workers and sent it to the spot. Forest officials, with the help of villagers, tried to secure the deer and save its life. Efforts were made by the team to save him, but his condition continued to deteriorate due to serious injuries and excessive bleeding. The deer died within some time.
After this, the forest department team took the dead body of the deer and took it to Dholavan forest complex. As per rules, Veterinary Officer Dr. Mrigadakshi Yadav and Veterinary Officer Dr. Vijay Kumar conducted the post-mortem of the deer. After the post-mortem, the Forest Department completed the necessary procedure.
Ranger Ghananand Chaniyal said that a wildlife crime has been registered in the case. The matter is being investigated and necessary legal action will be taken based on the investigation. He appealed to the villagers that if they get information about any wildlife arriving in the populated area, being injured or in trouble, instead of catching it or going after it, they should immediately inform the Forest Department, so that the wildlife can be protected in time.
The Forest Department also clarified that villagers need to remain alert in case of wildlife reaching populated areas. In such cases, instead of crowding or surrounding the wildlife, one should wait for the departmental team to arrive.
