Student anger erupts across the country: Clash between police and students at Jantar Mantar, stone pelting in many cities during ‘Bihar Bandh’ – ..

The anger of students across the country has now reached its peak over the NEET (NEET-UG) paper leak controversy and the demand for reforms in the National Testing Agency (NTA). Saturday (25 July 2026) from the capital Delhi to Bihar, UP, Uttarakhand and Kerala, student organizations took to the streets on a large scale and protested.

During these protests demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and accountability in the examination system, incidents of heated clashes, lathi charge and stone pelting have come to light between police and students at many places.

1. Delhi (Jantar Mantar): Tension increased again, lathi charge and stone pelting.

The students’ agitation which has been going on for the last several days at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar suddenly became violent on Saturday:

Clash with police: The protesting students were trying to move towards Sansad Marg, but the police had set up heavy barricades to stop them. During this, a scuffle and clash started between the students and the police for breaking the barricade.
Lathi charge and water cannon: Seeing the situation going out of control, the security forces used mild force and lathicharge to disperse the protesters.
News of stone pelting: An atmosphere of chaos was created in Jantar Mantar area after the mob pelted stones at the police. In response, the police have detained many student leaders and protesters.
Hi-Tech Surveillance: Delhi Police has taken the entire Jantar Mantar area under tight cordon with high-tech CCTV cameras, mobile surveillance vans and Facial Recognition System (FRS).

2. Widespread impact of ‘Bihar Bandh’ in Bihar: Violent clashes in many cities

On Saturday, leftist student organization AISA and other student fronts protested against the police action on students in Delhi. ‘Bihar Bandh’ A call was made, which is having widespread and violent impact in many districts of the state:

Jam on roads and railways: In Patna, Begusarai, Katihar, Darbhanga and Muzaffarpur, students took to the main roads, national highways (NH) and railway tracks since morning and disrupted traffic.
Stone pelting and clashes: There were heated clashes between protesters and police forces in Katihar and Begusarai, where incidents of stone pelting on police were reported. To control the situation, the police had to use tear gas shells and batons on the protesters.
Heavy force deployment in Patna: Heavy police force has been deployed around Dakbungla intersection and Ashok Rajpath in the capital Patna. Police have detained protesting students from many places.

What are the main demands of the students and protesters?

Resignation of Education Minister: Student organizations are continuously adamant on demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
Restructuring of NTA: There is a demand to bring complete transparency in the functioning of the National Testing Agency (NTA) and implement strict anti-paper leak laws.
Compensation and Withdrawal of Lawsuits: During the movement, demands are being raised to provide compensation to the families of the students who were victims and to withdraw the police cases registered against the students who were protesting peacefully.

The support of student organizations is also increasing in various states across the country (Kerala, Maharashtra, UP and Rajasthan), due to which the pressure on the central government and administration has increased immensely.
