The Tamil Nadu government has withdrawn the order barring students from participating in the demonstrations of 'Cockroach Janata Party' and left parties. In this order issued by the government, strict instructions were given to keep school and college students away from political demonstrations. However, Vijay Thalapathy's government had to change its decision after the Cockroach Janata Party protested, terming it completely unconstitutional.
On Wednesday, the Department of Collegiate Education officially withdrew its previous directive. In this directive, strict action was taken to prevent students and youth of government arts and science colleges from participating in any kind of protests and movements.
Giving information, Joint Director of College Education, Cynthia Selvi P said that the previous order issued by the department on August 17, 2026 in this regard has been withdrawn. This circular was sent to the principals of all government arts and science colleges in Tamil Nadu.
After all, what was the government order?
In an official letter sent on August 17, the College Education Commissioner had given clear instructions to the principals of government arts and science colleges. They were asked to coordinate with the School Education Department, Higher Education Department, local police and district administration to ensure that students and youth do not participate in political protests.
This instruction was based on a government letter dated August 14, in which emphasis was laid on mutual coordination between different departments on this issue. In this message issued in the category of “Most Urgent”, colleges were asked to immediately send the report of the action taken to the 'Directorate of Collegiate Education'.
According to sources, the TVK government had given strict instructions to the administration and police to stop the participation of students. The move was taken following the government's concern over the rapidly increasing political activity in the state and the increasing number of students and youth joining the protests being organized by the two major political groups.
BJP's sharp attack on CJP and Left
There was a sharp reaction from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders regarding this order. BJP leader Vinoj P. Selvam directly termed the leftist organizations and CJP as “Agents of Chaos”. He alleged that the leaders of these parties mislead innocent students and when faced with dire consequences, they leave the students alone and return to their homes.
The BJP leader welcomed the initial step of the Vijay government and said that this will help the students to stay away from political protests and focus on their careers. Along with this, he had also appealed to the government not to withdraw this notification at any cost due to pressure from its ally CPIM (CPI-M) or other opposition parties.
Why did CM Vijay have to withdraw this decision?
As soon as this order of the Tamil Nadu government came out, the Cockroach Janata Party had opened a front against it and called it a violation of constitutional rights. The party had strongly demanded the Vijay government to immediately cancel this order without any delay.
This entire political controversy has deepened at a time when continuous protests are going on in Tamil Nadu regarding NEET examination. CJP and student organizations associated with leftist ideology are leading these demonstrations. At such a sensitive time, Vijay Sarkar's order to keep students away from demonstrations became a big political issue, due to which the government finally had to withdraw its order under pressure from all sides.
