Success Story: Lost father to cancer, mother raised family by mortgaging jewelery and sewing, son became village’s first IITian

Success Story: It is said that difficult situations truly test a person’s courage. The story of Jigar Naik, a resident of a small village in Ganjam district of Odisha, is an example of this. Amidst financial constraints, father’s death and family responsibilities, his mother did not give up. Pawn the jewellery, did tailoring work and continued my son’s education. Today the same son is going to become the first IITian of his village by securing an excellent rank in JEE Advanced 2026.

Family life changed after father’s death

Jigar’s family was already living on limited income. His father worked in a textile factory in Gujarat and the responsibility of the entire family was on his shoulders. Cancer disease completely spoiled the financial condition of the family. The money saved during treatment was exhausted and ultimately the father passed away. After this, managing the daily expenses of the family also became a challenge.

Mother turned struggle into strength (Success Story)

After her husband’s departure, Jigar’s mother Apoorva Naik did not let her children’s education stop. She raised money by mortgaging her jewelery and started tailoring at home. By working hard day and night, he took care of the family’s expenses and did not let his son’s dreams be shattered.

IIT’s dream came true through social media

Jigar told in an interview that till 10th class he did not know much about IIT-JEE. After watching videos related to engineering and competitive exams on social media, he decided to study in IIT. After this he started preparation with full dedication.

Performed brilliantly in board exams also

Jigar remained diligent in his studies from the beginning. He scored 95 percent marks in 10th board exam, while he scored 87 percent marks in 12th. Due to his good performance, he also got help for further preparation.

Two years of hard work paid off in Kota

Jigar reached Kota for better preparation. Despite financial constraints, he worked hard continuously for two years. Despite limited resources, he focused fully on his goal and achieved All India Rank 5474 in JEE Advanced 2026.

Pride of becoming the first IITian of the village

Jigar Naik has now become the first student from his village who will get a chance to enter IIT. His success is not just a personal achievement but has become an inspiration for the entire village.

The biggest dream I saw for my mother

Jigar says that his biggest wish is to free his mother from struggles. His dream is that after completing his studies from IIT, he gets a good job, strengthens the financial condition of his family and also helps his younger brother complete his education without any hassle.
