The relationship progressed so much that despite the displeasure of the family, both of them got married. But the same marriage, for which he did not even listen to his family, broke up after a year. Saw it in 11th and became a fan
Suchitra Krishnamurthy shared the story of their first meeting in an interview with Hotterfly. According to her, when she saw Shekhar Kapur for the first time, she was studying in 11th class. Shekhar Kapur had come to his college as the chief guest. Suchitra told that after that meeting she had become his fan. A few years later, when she was 18 years old, photographer Gautam Rajadhyaksha took her to meet Shekhar for a film. The film could not be made, but their meetings continued.
Age difference becomes a concern for the family
There was a difference of about 30 years between Suchitra and Shekhar. This was the reason why the family was not comfortable with this relationship. Suchitra told that her mother was against this marriage and she had made an emotional appeal to her regarding it. According to him, his mother fell at his feet and told him not to do this, not to marry her. Despite this, Suchitra decided to take their relationship forward.
There was a rift in the relationship after 8 years
Both of them got married in 1999. They got divorced after about 8 years in 2007. Suchitra told that when things started going wrong in the relationship, her parents supported her. Recalling her feelings, she said that her mother always made her understand that she did not need to suffer any kind of insult and that she was not alone.
Daughter’s upbringing became the biggest responsibility
At the time of divorce, his daughter Kaveri was only 6 years old. After this Suchitra and Shekar shared the responsibility of raising their daughter. Describing her experience of co-parenting, Suchitra described it as a very different experience. She jokingly called Shekar Kapur a vacation dad, but at the same time admitted that he is a very good father to her daughter. Suchitra said that Kaveri is very close to her father and she considers it a matter of happiness for her too.
