Tis Hazari Court of Delhi has convicted swindler Sukesh Chandrashekhar in the case of trying to influence the Special Judge of ACB by posing as a Supreme Court judge. The court has found him guilty under sections 170, 189 and 507 of the IPC. The case pertains to the time when Sukesh was in judicial custody. It is alleged that he gained access to the mobile phone of constable Manjeet posted in the jail and using it, tried to influence the special judge of ACB by pretending to be a Supreme Court judge. According to the prosecution, in this case Sukesh had allegedly used fake identity to influence the judicial process.
During the hearing, the prosecution alleged that through constable Manjeet's mobile phone, Sukesh contacted the official landline number of the ACB special judge hearing the corruption case. According to the allegation, on the phone Sukesh first introduced himself as the secretary of a Supreme Court judge. After this he allegedly presented himself as the same Supreme Court judge. The prosecution alleges that through this fake identity he tried to put pressure on the ACB special judge to grant bail and influence the judicial outcome of the case. Tis Hazari Court has convicted Sukesh in the case under sections 170, 189 and 507 of the IPC. Now further proceedings will take place in the court regarding his punishment.
Tis Hazari Court described the matter as serious and said that it was not a mere case of false identification or making a phone call. According to the court, this was a well-planned and calculated attempt to influence the judicial system. The court said that calling himself a judge of the Supreme Court was an attempt to usurp the authority and credibility of the judicial institution. According to the court, such an attempt can affect the impartiality of the judicial process and institutional trust. The allegation in the case was that Sukesh contacted the official number of the special judge of ACB from the constable's mobile phone and first tried to pressurize him to grant bail and influence the judicial outcome by posing as the secretary of the Supreme Court judge and then as the judge himself.
Questions were also raised on the role of constable Manjeet
While convicting Sukesh Chandrashekhar, the Tis Hazari Court said that the evidence presented by the prosecution forms a coherent chain corroborating each other and clearly points towards the guilt of the accused. The court has directed Delhi Police to re-examine the role of constable Manjeet. The key point of investigation will be how Sukesh got access to Manjeet's mobile phone while he was in judicial custody. The police will also investigate what was the role of constable Manjeet in the entire process of using the phone and making the alleged calls and whether he was aware of the conspiracy or not.
