Summer holidays may start in Delhi from May 11, schools will remain closed for 50 days
Delhi Schools Summer Vacation: North-Central India is in the grip of extreme heat and wave these days, due to which normal life is being badly affected. In the capital Delhi, the Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert in view of the extreme heat. The temperature is expected to reach 44 degrees Celsius in the coming days, due to which the situation may become more serious.
Preparations begin for summer vacation
In view of the increasing heat, school timings have been changed in many states, while in some places summer vacations have already started. Schools have been closed in states like Chhattisgarh, Odisha and Kerala. At the same time, in Delhi too, preparations have started for the summer vacation of schools keeping in mind the safety of children.
Holidays may start from May 11
This time the summer holidays in government and aided schools of Delhi are likely to start from May 11, 2026. According to the previous academic calendar also, summer vacation started around this time. It is expected that this time also around 50 days of leave can be given.
According to the trend of previous years, summer vacation in Delhi lasts for about one and a half months. Schools usually close on May 11 and reopen in late June or early July. However, teachers are called only a few days before the school opens.
Water bell system for relief from heat
‘Water bell’ system has been implemented in schools to protect from extreme heat. Under this system, a bell is rung every 45 to 60 minutes to remind students to drink water and prevent dehydration. This initiative has been taken keeping in mind the health of the students.
Meteorological Department’s yellow alert issued
In view of the yellow alert of the weather department and the continuously rising temperature, the education department is keeping an eye on the situation and a final decision regarding school holidays can be taken soon.
