Sunny Deol and Rajkumar Santoshi were set to work together again on a new action film, bringing their long-running professional association back to the screen.
Santoshi recently confirmed that he was developing a project with Deol titled Ghatak Ghus Ke Maarega. Despite the title, the Andaz Apna Apna director clarified that the film was not a sequel to their 1996 action film Ghatak.
Speaking to PTI, Santoshi said, “Sunny and I are working on a few stories, and soon we will make a formal announcement about it. The film has full-fledged action. It is called Ghatak Ghus Ke Maarega. It is not a sequel.”
The Amazing love story director explained that Deol would play the same character from Ghatak, but the story would be different. The 1996 film had featured Deol as Kashi, who stood against a powerful gangster while trying to protect his community.
Santoshi also revealed that the upcoming film had been planned with action, dialogues and emotion. He said the project was expected to connect with Deol’s established fan base.
“The fans of Sunny will be happy as this new film has action, powerful dialogues and emotion,” Santoshi told PTI.
The filmmaker further said that he and Deol had been discussing several other stories. One of those projects had featured Deol as a Sikh man in America and had also been planned as an action drama.
The new collaboration followed They drive 1947which had brought Santoshi and Deol together again after several years. The pair had previously worked on films including Ghayal, Damini and Ghatak.
Santoshi also clarified that he would not be directing Jaat 2. The 2025 film had starred Deol and had been directed by Gopichand Malineni.
“I said no for it because I don’t believe in making sequels,” Santoshi told PTI.
Meanwhile, Santoshi had also been developing Ada Apni Apnia comedy-adventure film. The title had drawn comparisons with his 1994 film Andaz Apna Apna, which had starred Aamir Khan and Salman Khan.
Santoshi clarified that the new project was not a sequel to the earlier film.
“It is called Ada Apni Apni, it is a different story, but the genre, comedy, and adventure are the same,” he said.
The filmmaker had not confirmed the casting for Ada Apni Apni. He said an announcement regarding the cast would be made later.
