Supreme Court Housewife Rights: Supreme Court’s big comment on women who take care of the house, said that underestimating their role is a big mistake.

A comment by the Supreme Court of the country has started a new debate regarding the role of housewives (Supreme Court Housewife Rights). The court has clearly said that the contribution of women who take care of the family is not limited only to the four walls of the house, but their work is also related to the building of the society and the country. After this comment, the discussion regarding women’s rights and economic importance of household work has intensified.

During the hearing, the court also acknowledged that the value of the labor of women who take care of the house cannot be measured only in money terms. The judges said that their contribution in strengthening the foundation of the family is very important and should not be ignored.

Supreme Court The bench said that calling women who perform household responsibilities only as home makers would be limiting their contribution. The court acknowledged that they play an important role in building the family and society, hence they should also be seen as nation builders.

The court said that the work done inside the house impacts the future of the entire family and this contribution also gets linked to the development of the society.

Domestic contribution will be taken into account in determining compensation

The bench clarified that in cases like road accidents, the household contribution of housewives should be considered an important basis for determining compensation. Domestic care and family work cannot be ignored.

The Court believes that if a housewife’s absence causes a loss of domestic services to the family, her assessment should also be included in the judicial process.

Income assessment is not based on wages alone

During the hearing, the court said that the notional income of housewives should be determined keeping in mind their labour, time and sacrifice. It would not be appropriate to assess their contribution only on the basis of minimum wages.

The judges said that if the economic value of various works done in the house is calculated then this contribution cannot be considered less than that of a person earning regular income.

Judgment given in old case

This comment was made during the hearing of a case related to a road accident in Uttarakhand in 2006 (Supreme Court Housewife Rights). A woman died in the accident, after which limited compensation was paid to the family.

The family had demanded to increase the compensation, but it was not accepted in the earlier hearing. Later the matter reached the Supreme Court, where the entire episode was reviewed again.

Court expressed displeasure over wrong assessment

During the hearing, the court objected to the fact that the income of the housewife was assessed at a lower level than that of the daily wage laborer (Supreme Court Housewife Rights). The bench said that such an assessment cannot be accepted. The court also criticized several factual errors present in the case and said that a more sensitive approach needs to be taken in such cases.

Instructions to increase the compensation amount

After reviewing the case, the court increased the compensation amount to Rs 6 lakh. Besides, the concerned party was also directed to make the payment within the prescribed time limit. This comment of the court is being considered an important step towards formal recognition of the contribution of housewives, which is being discussed across the country.
