Demand for CBI investigation was raised

The petition demanded that the encounter be investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The petitioner argued that a fair and independent investigation of the case is possible only when its investigation is handed over to an external agency. On this basis, an appeal was made to the Supreme Court to intervene.

Also requested to form an independent committee

It was also said in the petition that an independent expert committee should be constituted under the chairmanship of a retired judge of the Supreme Court. This committee should be given the responsibility to investigate the entire encounter, find out the facts and submit its report to the court so that transparency is maintained in the matter.

Demand for FIR and compensation against policemen

The petitioner had also demanded registration of an FIR against the police officers involved in the encounter, handing over the investigation to the CBI and giving appropriate compensation to the victim’s family. However, the Supreme Court did not comment on the merits and demerits of these demands. The court only said that for relief in the matter, a petition should first be filed before the Patna High Court.
