Supreme Court’s strict comment on cyber fraud: CJI Surya Kant
The Supreme Court of India on Wednesday flatly refused to grant bail to an accused of cyber fraud. Rejecting his bail plea, the court said that such crimes cause serious harm to the society.
New Delhi: The Supreme Court of India has made an important comment, taking a tough stance on the increasing cases of cyber crime. The Supreme Court, while rejecting the bail plea of a cyber fraud accused, made it clear that such crimes cause serious economic loss to the society and it would not be appropriate to be lenient towards them.
The case occurred on Wednesday, when the Supreme Court bench, headed by Chief Justice of India CJI Surya Kant, heard the bail plea of an accused related to cyber fraud. While rejecting the petition, the court made very strict comments and said that keeping cyber criminals in jail is in the interest of the society.
“Parasites” and criminals attacking society: Court’s sharp comment
During the hearing, the court said that cyber criminals target people across the country and cause huge financial loss to them. The court also said that such criminals often move from one state to another to continue their activities, which makes it more difficult for the investigating agencies to catch them.
During this, the CJI made a sharp comment and said that such criminals are like “parasites” for the society, who harm the system and common citizens. The court also said that it is necessary to adopt a strict approach in such cases so that effective control can be imposed on digital crimes. The Supreme Court said, “You people cause losses worth crores of rupees to investors and common citizens. It is necessary to be strict against such cyber criminals and it is in the interest of the society that they be kept in jail.”
Growing concern over cyber crime
With the increasing use of digital transactions and online services in India, cases of cyber crime are also increasing rapidly. Cases like fake investment schemes, banking frauds, phishing scams and social media frauds have caused huge financial losses to the general public. The Supreme Court of India emphasized that cyber crimes are now cross-border and multi-state in nature.
Criminals commit crimes in one state and move to another state, which makes it difficult for investigating agencies to coordinate. The court indicated that a strict legal approach and swift investigation mechanism is required to deal with such crimes.
Message of strictness of the court
The Supreme Court gave a clear message that cyber crimes cannot be taken lightly like normal crimes. The court said that such crimes directly impact the savings, investments and digital security of the general public. In recent times, it has been observed that the networks of cyber criminals are becoming highly organized and technically capable. This is why the court insisted on adopting a strict judicial approach in such cases.
