Surat: SGCCI signs two international MoUs in Morocco, marking a new chapter with AMITH and IMCCI

Surat: The Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI) has achieved a significant milestone in connecting the industries and trade of South Gujarat with international markets. During the ‘MIM 2026’ (Morocco in Mode) and ‘4th Morocco International Yarn and Fabric Sourcing Show 2026’ held in Casablanca, Morocco, the chamber signed two important international Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs).

These agreements were made with Morocco’s leading textile organization AMITH and the India Morocco Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IMCCI). The delegation led by SGCCI President Ashok Jirawala and Vice President Ravi Raj Desai is expected to create new opportunities for export, investment, and business collaboration in the North African market for various industries, including textiles in South Gujarat. SGCCI has signed a five-year cooperation agreement with AMITH, the leading textile and clothing organization in Morocco, known as ‘Association Marocaine des Industries du Textile et de l’Habillement’ (AMITH).

This MoU was signed by AMITH President Anas Al Ansari and SGCCI President Ashok Jirawala. Under this agreement, a joint committee will be formed for cooperation in the textile and clothing sector, which will meet at least once a year to review business projects. Additionally, support will be provided to textile manufacturers from both countries in resolving issues related to customs processes, regulatory rules, and rules of origin.

The agreement also emphasizes promoting investment and exhibitions. Under this, entrepreneurs from Surat will be encouraged to invest in textile sectors such as spinning, weaving, knitting, dyeing, and finishing in Morocco. Meanwhile, traders from Surat will receive incentives to participate in the MIM exhibition in Morocco, and AMITH will promote SGCCI’s textile exhibitions held in Surat among Moroccan buyers and manufacturers.

The second MoU was signed between SGCCI and the India Morocco Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IMCCI) for institutional cooperation in various industries. This agreement was signed by IMCCI President Colin Nehvani and SGCCI President Ashok Jirawala. The scope of this agreement includes sectors such as textiles, SSME, gems and jewelry, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, engineering, logistics, information technology, and renewable energy.

Both organizations will work to promote bilateral trade, technical exchange, and investment in these sectors. This will include arrangements for the exchange of business delegations, B2B meetings, and sharing market-related information. SGCCI President Ashok Jirawala stated that Morocco is a significant gateway to access large markets in Europe and Africa.

The agreements with AMITH and IMCCI will provide new business opportunities internationally for the industries of Surat and South Gujarat. This will enhance the export of fabrics, yarn, and garment accessories while also establishing a strong foundation for Indian investment in Morocco. Vice President Ravi Raj Desai mentioned that both MoUs will play a crucial role in strengthening the economic partnership between India and Morocco.

The world-class manufacturing infrastructure of Surat and Morocco’s access to international markets can benefit entrepreneurs from both countries. These agreements will open new export markets for SSME manufacturers, yarn-fabric suppliers, and the apparel industry, while also promoting technical cooperation and joint investment.
