Survey of 80 seats in UP, know who is getting how many seats

Once again a major upheaval seems to be taking place in the politics of Uttar Pradesh. India Today and C-Voter August 2026 Mood of the Nation (Mood of the Nation Survey) The survey has presented worrying figures for the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party in the state. According to the latest survey, if Lok Sabha elections are held today, the opposition party INDIA Bloc will be in power out of 80 seats in Uttar Pradesh. NDA alliance (NDA Alliance) seems to be taking lead.

Change of seats, mathematics and vote share

In the August 2026 survey, the INDIA block is projected to win 41 seats in Uttar Pradesh, which has 80 seats, while the BJP-led NDA may win 38 seats. This figure is considered important because in the survey of January 2026, the picture was completely opposite. At that time NDA was estimated to get 48 seats and India Bloc would get only 31 seats. Within just a few months, 10 potential seats have been reduced from NDA's kitty, while India Bloc has gained 10 seats.

NDA is still maintaining a slight lead in terms of vote percentage. According to the survey, NDA is expected to get 42 percent votes, which is a decline of 5 percentage points as compared to January. On the other end, India Block (INDIA Block) is expected to get 40 percent vote share, which is 2 percent less than January. Despite higher vote share, India Block is leading in the equation of seats.

If we compare this with the results of 2024 general elections, then in 2024 India Bloc had won 43 seats and NDA had won 36 seats. The August estimate is very close to 2024, but the change compared to January is indicative of the political environment of the state.

Ram temple controversy and youth related issues

The donation dispute related to Ayodhya's Ram temple was also mentioned in the survey. In this, 47 percent of the respondents were of the opinion that this controversy has affected the image of both the Narendra Modi government at the Center and the Yogi Adityanath government of Uttar Pradesh. Whereas 8 percent believed that the impact was only on the Center and 7 percent said it was limited to the state government.

Although, election analyst Yashwant Deshmukh (Elections Analyst) and founder of C-Voter believes that the main reason for changing the atmosphere in UP is not just the controversy related to Ram Temple. According to him, the concerns arising from the new equity rules of UGC are a big factor. These rules have worried parents whose children are preparing for higher education and employment. This apprehension regarding the future and career of the youth is also being considered as a reason for this change in public opinion.

NDA's performance and scope of survey at the national level

Even though the contest looks tough for NDA in Uttar Pradesh, at the country level the BJP-led alliance is ahead of the majority mark. In the national projections for August 2026, the NDA is projected to get 326 seats, which is, however, 26 seats less than the January projection of 352 seats.

This survey is based on direct conversations with 25,184 people between July 1 and August 25. It also includes data from 91,795 tracking interviews conducted by C-Voter in the last six months. Issues and equations in electoral politics keep changing with time, but at present this survey is clearly indicating that the upcoming election contest in Uttar Pradesh will be interesting.
