Suspense ends in Tamil Nadu: Governor invites Vijay to form government, oath taking ceremony in Chennai on Sunday
Chennai. Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar on Saturday appointed TVK chief Vijay as the new Chief Minister of the state. Lok Bhavan gave this information. According to the information received from Lok Bhavan, the swearing in will take place on Sunday at 10 am in Chennai. Governor Arlekar gave Vijay time to seek the trust vote on or before May 13.
After VCK and IUML announced support to TVK to form government, actor-politician Vijay met Governor Arlekar on Saturday and handed him letters from the parties promising unconditional support.
Vijay met Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) chief K. Selvaperunthagai and Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) State Secretary P. Shanmugam met the Governor along with leaders of allies. VCK (Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi) and Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) have two seats each.
With the support of both the parties, Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam’s (TVK) seat count has now reached 120 in the 234-member assembly. The founding leader of TVK had urged the Governor to formally invite him to form the government. Vijay had come to meet the Governor at Lok Bhavan for the fourth time. Meanwhile, TVK workers burst crackers, distributed sweets and gathered in large numbers to celebrate at the party office.
