A tragic road accident in south Delhi’s Greater Kailash-I has left a 71-year-old woman dead and her husband injured. The couple was walking near Kailash Colony Metro Station when an SUV allegedly hit several vehicles before striking them.
The accident took place on Sunday evening. Police received a PCR call regarding the crash at the Greater Kailash-I police station. Officers reached the spot and rushed the injured couple to Moolchand Hospital.
Greater Kailash Accident: Woman Dies, Husband Injured
The woman was identified as Shashi, 71. Doctors at Moolchand Hospital declared her brought dead. Her husband, Kulbhushan, 65, also suffered injuries. He was later declared fit to give his statement to the police.
According to police, the accused driver first hit multiple vehicles and then struck the elderly couple. The incident has raised fresh concerns over reckless driving and pedestrian safety on busy Delhi roads.
Delhi Police Arrests Accused Driver
The Delhi Police have arrested the accused driver who is connected with the accident. They have also registered an FIR under sections 281, 125(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). These sections are related to rash driving, endangering public safety and causing death through negligence. As the investigation is still going on, police are examining the circumstances that led to the vehicle losing control.
Separate ITO Accident Leaves Several Injured
Meanwhile, another serious road accident was reported at Delhi’s ITO traffic signal on Sunday night. An out-of-control Swift car reportedly hit a divider and crossed into the opposite lane. It then collided with an Innova near the old Police Headquarters.
Several people were injured in the crash. Two MLAs, Anil Jha and Abhay Patil, were among those hurt, according to police. The back-to-back accidents have once again put the spotlight on road safety and responsible driving in the national capital.
