Swearing in of new government in Assam today, Himanta Biswa Sarma will hold the post of Chief Minister for the second time.
Tezzbuzz Desk- Today a new chapter is going to be added in the politics of Assam. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government is going to take power in the state for the third consecutive time. Himanta Biswa Sarma will take oath as the Chief Minister of Assam for the second time today. The swearing-in ceremony will be held at 11:40 am at the Veterinary College Ground, Guwahati.
This grand ceremony will be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and many Union Ministers, Chief Ministers and Deputy Chief Ministers of NDA ruled states. Apart from this, prominent personalities of the industry, session rights, BJP workers and booth committee chairpersons will also be present in the program.
Before taking oath as Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the names of the first four colleagues of his cabinet. Along with him, Rameshwar Teli, Atul Bora, Charan Boro and Ajanta Niyog will take oath as ministers. Sarma said that this swearing-in ceremony in the dignified presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be a historic moment for the state.
Atul Bora is the president of Assam Gana Parishad (AGP) and has also been a minister in the previous government. Charan Boro is an MLA from Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) and had also served as a minister in the previous NDA government. Ajanta Neog has also got a place in the cabinet again. Rameshwar Teli, who has previously been a minister of state in the central government, has made a comeback into state politics through the 2026 assembly elections.
Himanta Biswa Sarma also announced that MLA Ranjit Das will be made the NDA candidate for the post of Assam Assembly Speaker. He said that the new government will work with full commitment to build a strong, developed and prosperous Assam. Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached Guwahati on Monday night before the swearing-in ceremony. Chief Minister nominee Himanta Biswa Sarma and BJP leaders welcomed him at the Lok Sabha Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport. An atmosphere of excitement was seen throughout Guwahati regarding the arrival of PM Modi.
Himanta Biswa Sarma, while welcoming the Prime Minister on social media platform X, said that his visit is an important occasion in the history of Assam, as the BJP-NDA government is being formed in the state for the third consecutive time. He also expressed gratitude for the guidance and blessings of the Prime Minister.
According to political analysts, this swearing-in is not only being considered as a program of government formation, but also a demonstration of BJP’s strong hold in the North-East and the political strength of NDA.
