A tourist from Switzerland has been sentenced to one year in prison for insulting the holy religious festival of Hindus and using obscene words. This incident happened in Bali, Indonesia. Nyepi is a very sacred Hindu festival on the island of Bali, Indonesia. The day is considered as New Year and day of silence in the Hindu community. The day is celebrated according to the Saka calendar. The island is closed to traffic for the whole day during this festival. Along with lighting the lights, refraining from entertainment and self-purification and meditation at home. Local volunteers patrol the streets to see that the rules are followed properly. Tourists are not exempt from this rule. However, it is alleged that the foreign tourist has insulted the religious custom as well.

Luzian posted a video on Instagram on that particular day. Where the young man went for a walk on the beach defying the ban. In the video, he mocked the festival of Hindus as madness. Nyepi uses a vulgar word instead. As soon as the video went viral on social media, a huge controversy started. Police arrested the youth from a villa on the beach when anger spread among the people. His trial in the court started from last June.
The young man accused in the whole incident apologizes for his actions. Safai said that he was forced to go out of the house due to hunger without getting food during the lockdown. He did not realize that this restriction was so strict. “I deeply regret what I have done, I apologize to the people of Bali,” Luzian told the court. However, the Indonesian court sentenced the accused youth to one year in prison.
