The Talcher-Puri MEMU passenger train derailed on Friday near Puri railway station in Odisha, approximately 500 meters from the station close to Platform No. 3. The train was traveling at a slow speed at the time, resulting in no major damage and no injuries.
Railway staff and personnel from the Railway Protection Force (RPF) promptly arrived at the scene and controlled the situation. Efforts to remove the derailed train have already begun. The incident caused only minor disruption to train movement in the vicinity, with no other trains affected.
In a related event in May, the Ujjain Express derailed near Yog Nagari Railway Station in Rishikesh, Uttarakhand, when three coaches came off the tracks close to Khand Village. Fortunately, the train was empty of passengers at the time. Preliminary investigations indicate that brake failure during routine maintenance may have caused the derailment. Concerns were raised about the handling of the incident, as senior railway officials reportedly did not arrive for two and a half hours. A large crowd had gathered on the tracks but was dispersed by Government Railway Police personnel.
