Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay reached a government school in Chennai on Tuesday and sat with the children and had breakfast there. He himself served food to the students and also interacted with them. During this, the Chief Minister also took information from the students regarding studies and school facilities. The event was organized at Gandhi Gramam Government Middle School, Thiruvanmiyur, Chennai, to mark the expansion of the Perunthalaivar Kamarajar Free Breakfast Scheme.

Now children of older classes will also get breakfast
Till now, students from class 1 to 5 were getting the benefit of the scheme. The government has expanded its scope to classes 6 to 8. That is, now children studying up to class 8 in government and government-aided schools will get morning breakfast under the scheme.
With this extension, it is said that about 15.30 lakh additional students studying in 15,454 schools of the state will get the benefits of the scheme. The government has also approved an additional amount of Rs 217.63 crore for this.
