Tamil Nadu: Vijay’s party TVK also got the support of IUML, now support of total 120 MLAs, process of government formation fast.
The speculations and equations that have been going on in the politics of Tamil Nadu for the last few days have now come to an end, because the way for the formation of the government under the leadership of Vijay has been completely cleared. TVK, which has emerged as the largest party in the state by defeating established parties like Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIDMK), has now got a sufficient majority, and is soon going to take the reins of power. Recently, Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) as well as Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) have also taken the important decision of extending their support to TVK, following which Vijay now has a strong tally of total 120 MLAs, which is more than the majority mark of 118 required to form the government. This development has boosted hopes of formation of a stable government in the state.
Before this important decision of VCK, an important meeting of the party was held on Saturday evening, in which the issue of supporting TVK was discussed in depth. At the end of this meeting, the party leaders unanimously agreed to extend unconditional support to TVK to make Vijay the Chief Minister, due to which Vijay’s name as the next Chief Minister of the state is now considered almost certain. This move by VCK not only gives numerical strength to Vijay-led TVK, but also symbolizes their growing acceptance in state politics, which will speed up the process of government formation.
TVK is the largest party in Tamil Nadu, got support from these parties
Earlier, the results of Tamil Nadu Assembly elections declared on May 4 were quite shocking in themselves, when TVK defied all predictions and established itself as the largest party in the state. However, the party could only reach the mark of 108 seats, and was still 10 seats short of the 118 seats required for a majority, leaving uncertainty over government formation. Subsequently, TVK started receiving support from other smaller parties and independent MLAs. First, five Congress MLAs extended their support to TVK, after which two MLAs each from Communist Party of India (CPI) and Communist Party of India Marxist (CPIM) also extended their support to TVK, taking the party to a total of 116 MLAs. Now with the support of VCK and IUML, this number has increased to 120, thereby ensuring the formation of the government under the leadership of Vijay. TVK has expressed its heartfelt gratitude to all these supporting parties and MLAs, and party leader Arjun has clearly stated that Vijay is now fully prepared to form a stable and effective government in Tamil Nadu.
Amidst all these political developments, All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIDMK) chief Edappadi K. A statement by Palaniswami some time ago had further increased the political stir. He had congratulated the government forming party in advance through one of his social media posts, which had further intensified speculations about the support to TVK and government formation. Palaniswami had said in his post, “In the recently concluded 17th Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, candidates from various political parties contested and won. I extend my heartiest congratulations to the party that formed the government in Tamil Nadu.” This statement came at a time when VCK and IUML’s support was not officially announced, but it clearly indicated that significant progress has been made towards the formation of the new government in the state and the transfer of power is just a few steps away.
