8 killed, 9 injured in hotel fire in Birbhum, West Bengal, people had come to visit Tarapith temple

Birbhum: A major accident took place late Sunday night near Tarapith temple in Birbhum district of West Bengal. A sudden fire broke out in a hotel here. 8 people are reported to have died in the accident while 9 people are said to be seriously injured. The injured have been admitted to a nearby hospital for treatment. In the initial investigation, short circuit is suspected to be the cause of the fire. After the fire, smoke quickly filled the inside of the hotel. The situation became so bad that the people present there were not even able to find a way out.

22 people were evacuated with the help of stairs

Birbhum SP Vidit Raj Bhundesh said that fire or smoke was not clearly visible from outside the hotel. Police and fire brigade teams evacuated 22 people from the hotel with the help of stairs. Of these, 11 people were sent to the hospital for treatment. The police have registered an FIR against the hotel operators and detained them. The FSL team will also reach the spot and investigate to find out the real reason behind the fire.

Mother and two children were with the woman

After the accident, a woman told that she had come from South 24 Parganas to worship at Tarapeeth on Sunday afternoon. His mother and children were also with him. According to the woman, her mother was staying in room number one of the hotel but her mother and two children are missing after the accident. They are being searched.

Devotees reach Tarapeeth in large numbers

The place where this accident happened is very close to the famous Tarapith temple. Goddess Tara is worshiped in this temple located in Birbhum and devotees from all over the country come here for darshan. Lord Shiva is depicted in the lap of the statue of Maa Tara in the temple. A gold mask is placed on the statue during the day which is removed at night. The great crematorium is also situated near the Tarapeeth temple where there is an old tradition of Tantric practice. This place is also associated with Bamakhepa, a famous tantric practitioner and devotee of Maa Tara. His Samadhi and Smriti temple are also present in Tarapeeth.
