EV Sales Growth India May 2026 Report: The choice of Electric Vehicles (EV) is increasing among the people in India. According to the sales report for May 2026, leading companies like Tata Motors, Mahindra and Kia have not only increased their sales but also set new standards of growth in the EV segment. Market experts believe that due to the launch of new models and improvement in charging infrastructure, customers are now preferring electric cars instead of petrol-diesel.
Tata Motors’ reign as EV king continues
Tata Motors, which holds the top position in the electric car market, has crossed a milestone with sales of 10,340 units in May 2026. Last year in May 2025, the company had sold only 5,083 units, which means that within a year, Tata’s EV sales have registered a huge increase of 103.4%.
Tata has a wide portfolio ranging from Tiago EV (starting at Rs 6.99 lakh) to Harrier EV (starting at Rs 21.49 lakh), attracting customers of every budget.
Mahindra’s high jump
Mahindra & Mahindra has also strengthened its hold in the EV segment. The company sold 6,210 units in May 2026, an impressive year-on-year growth of 114.8% over the same period last year (2,891 units). Mahindra’s models like XUV 3XO EV (starting price Rs 13.89 lakh) and XUV400 EV are getting an excellent response in the market.
‘Carens Clavis’ changed fate
The most surprising report of this month has been from Kia India. Although Kia stood ninth in terms of total units with 349 cars, the company has registered an annual growth of 751.22%. The entire credit for this tremendous surge goes to Kia’s 7-seater electric car Carens Clavis EV, which is priced between Rs 18 lakh to Rs 25 lakh. This car is becoming quite popular among large families.
