Delhi. Tata Motors has given a big shock to the customers buying commercial vehicles. The company has announced to increase the prices of its entire commercial vehicle portfolio by 1% from October 1, 2026. In the information given to the stock exchange, it was said that this revision in prices will vary according to the model and variant.
The company has taken this decision to mitigate the impact of rising commodity prices and other input costs. This is the second price increase by Tata Motors in the commercial vehicle category this year. Earlier, the company had increased the prices of commercial vehicles by 1.5 percent from April 1, 2026. Even at that time the company had cited rising commodity and input costs as the reason.
Trucks and buses will become expensive from October 1
Prices increased in other Tata Motors businesses also
The proposed increase in commercial vehicle prices is part of a broader trend of price revision across Tata Motors' various businesses.
Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Limited had also increased the prices of its passenger vehicles by up to 1.5 percent from July 1, 2026. This increase was applicable to models with internal combustion engines (ICE) like petrol-diesel as well as electric vehicles.
This was the second price increase of 2026 in the passenger vehicle business. Earlier, the company had increased the prices of its ICE portfolio by 0.5 percent from April 1, 2026.
In the price revision done in April, the prices of some variants were increased by 1.09 percent, while the prices of some variants of Tata Altroz were also slightly reduced.
Why are auto companies increasing prices?
Auto companies across the country are making periodic changes in vehicle prices amid rising commodity prices, logistics expenses, supply chain costs and fluctuations in currency exchange rates.
This revision in prices is considered a way for companies to mitigate the impact of rising input costs. However, different companies have given their own business and cost reasons for increasing the price.
Other companies also increased vehicle prices
Maruti Suzuki had increased the prices of its vehicles by up to Rs 30,000 from June 2026.
Hyundai Motor India had also increased the prices of vehicles by up to Rs 12,800 from June 1, 2026.
Apart from this, companies like JSW MG Motor India, BMW India, Mercedes-Benz India, Audi India and Honda Cars India had also announced increase in the prices of their vehicles around the same period.
Presence in global markets also
Tata Motors, part of the approximately $180 billion Tata Group, is among India's leading commercial and passenger vehicle manufacturers.
Apart from India, the company also has business in South Korea.
Tata Motors also has a global presence in the markets of Africa, Middle East, Latin America, South-East Asia and SAARC countries.
Apart from commercial and passenger vehicles, the company's international presence and diverse vehicle portfolio positions it among the leading companies in the Indian automobile industry.
Why did the company increase the prices?
Auto companies remain under pressure from production costs and other costs. According to reports, Tata Motors has decided to increase the price in view of the current market conditions. This is said to be the third price hike in the commercial vehicle business of Tata Motors in FY27. This indicates that the company is changing prices from time to time to handle cost and margin pressures.
What will be the impact on transport traders?
An increase in the price of commercial vehicles by even 1% could impact business customers differently than individual car buyers. Initial purchase costs will increase for customers purchasing trucks, buses or other commercial vehicles. Apart from this, the total cost of the loan may also increase slightly if financed. However, the actual economic impact will depend on which model the customer buys, the extent of the price increase applied and the type of business the vehicle is used for.
What does it mean for customers?
If a customer is planning to buy a Tata commercial vehicle, it will be important to compare the current price available till 30 September 2026 and the new price after 1 October. Especially in big trucks, buses or high priced vehicles, even a difference of 1% can be huge in rupee terms.
