Team India is a contender for Women’s T20 WC, what has been the condition in the last 5 editions?

Only a few days are left for the start of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026. This tournament, being organized in England, will start from June 12, while the final match will be played on July 5 at the historic ground of Lord’s. The Indian team is coming under the leadership of Harmanpreet Kaur. This will be his fifth consecutive T20 World Cup as captain. 2024 edition

Harmanpreet Kaur Brigade had to face defeat first at the hands of New Zealand and then at the hands of Australia, due to which their journey ended in the group stage itself.

2023 edition

In this T20 World Cup played hosted by South Africa, the Indian team had reached the semi-finals. However, she could not overcome the Australian hurdle and missed a place in the title match by just 5 runs. Australia had scored 172 runs in the semi-final match, in response to which Team India, despite being in a strong position, could score only 167 runs losing 8 wickets.

2020 edition

In this T20 World Cup held in Australia, the Indian team has given its best performance so far. Team India made a strong start to its campaign by defeating host Australia by 17 runs. After this, Harmanpreet and Company defeated the challenge of Bangladesh, New Zealand and Sri Lanka and entered the semi-finals by topping Group A. India was to face England in the semi-finals but the match was washed out due to rain and being the table topper in its group, Team India reached its first T20 World Cup final.

 

More than 80 thousand spectators came to the Melbourne Cricket Ground to see the Indian team become T20 World Cup champion for the first time but Harmanpreet Kaur Sena surrendered in front of Australia. Australia won the toss and batted first and scored a huge score of 184 runs at the loss of 4 wickets, chasing which Team India was reduced to just 99.

2018 edition

The Indian team’s journey in the 2018 T20 World Cup also ended in the semi-finals. In this tournament played in West Indies, Team India had defeated a strong team like Australia in its last group match, but in the semi-finals, it was limited to just 112 runs in front of England, which the team captained by Heather Knight easily achieved by losing 2 wickets in 17.1 overs.

2016 edition

The performance of the Indian team, which came to play the T20 World Cup for the first time at home, was very poor and it was eliminated from the group stage itself. The team captained by Mithali Raj had started its campaign on a good note by defeating Bangladesh but had to face defeat in the next 3 group matches. Team India stood fourth in Group-B of 5 teams. In this tournament, the Indian team also had to face defeat at the hands of Pakistan.
