Medaram Jathara
Sammakka Saralama Jathara or Medaram Jathara is a festival of the tribals in Telangana, India in which they worship the deity in which they believe. This festival of Jathara starts at Medaram in Tadwai mandal in Warangal district. This festival is about the battle of mother daughter named Sammakka and Sarallamma who fought a battle against the unjust law against the ruling people. It is believed that after the Kumbh Mela, this Medaram Jathara festival has the largest crowd. As expected, around 1.5 crore people visited this festival in 2018. This festival is celebrated in Medaram at the time when the people living here believe that their God is with them at this place. Medaram is located in the Eturnagaram Wildlife Sanctuary and is a part of the place called Dandakaranya.
Many stories are told of the magical powers of Sammakka. The story goes that 6-7 centuries ago, people of the Koya tribal community were returning from a trip where they saw a little girl playing with lions. Seeing the courage and strength of that girl, the king of this community was so pleased that he adopted this girl and named her Samakka. Later this girl was married to the head of the tribal community of a nearby village and gave birth to a girl, whom she named Saralama. These two mother and daughter opposed the king of Kakatiya tribe who used to force people to pay taxes. The people of Koya community built this temple in their honor. This festival named Samakka Saralama Jathara is celebrated every year, which is one of the biggest tribal festivals of the country.

Samakka Saralamma Jathara is the biggest tribal festival of the country, celebrated every two years with participation of more than 10 million people and is celebrated at a distance of 90 kilometers from Warangal city. This festival is celebrated for 4 days. Samakka Saralamma Jathara festival is a Telangana state government festival. Other states of India like Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Orissa, Maharashtra, Karnataka and many other states participate in this festival. People donate jaggery equal to the weight of their deity’s idol and also take a bath in the sacred water of Jampanna Yagu. This is a festival in which there is no influence of Vedas and Brahmins.
1998 The only way to reach Medaram was by bullock cart. In 1998, the government declared this festival official and also built a road for the convenience of the people. In 2008 it was estimated that 8 million people were present at the festival and recently 10 million people participated in the festival. It is said to be the biggest festival of the country. During this festival, there is a jam of more than 60 kilometers on the Warangal Highway. In 2012, approximately 1 crore people attended this largest festival in the world.
Jampanna Vaagu

Jampanna Vaagu festival is celebrated to pay tribute to the Godavari River. According to history, Jampanna was a warrior and was also the son of Lord Samakka. Jampanna Vaagu took his name when he was fighting against Kakatiya and while fighting he was martyred and fell into the river. Even today the color of this place is red, which symbolizes the death of Jampanna. People living here believe that taking a dip in this river reminds people of the sacrifice of their Gods and fills them with courage. A bridge has been built over Jampanna Vagu, which is called Jampanna Vagu Bridge.
Maghasudha Purnnami

The festival begins in the evening of Sudha Purnami i.e. full moon day in the month of Magha when Sarakka is brought to the forest from Kanneboyinapalle village and placed on a platform near the tree. Next day again before sunrise, Lord Sammakka is brought from Chilukalagutt. There are two platforms here, one for Sammakka and the other for Sarakka. It is in the shape of sugarcane and turmeric and vermillion are applied on it. Since that time there is a very big tree on the Sammakka Pit. Whenever the pundits find an saffron colored box from here, which contains all kinds of important relics, there is a lot of noise at this place and drums and shehnai are also played. It is also believed that during this festival, a lion roams quietly here and donated coconuts and jaggery are collected near old trees.

Sammakka Sarakka Jathara is the largest festival in the world and is celebrated for 4 days in the month of Magha Purnima. This festival is celebrated in the heart of Tadwai Mandal Warangal District. It is similar to Kumbh Mela, Telangana government also promotes it like Kumbh Mela. This fair is celebrated from 31 January to 3 February.
