Tension increases on Strait of Hormuz: Macron appeals for coordination between America and Iran

New Delhi: Amid rising tensions in the Middle East, French President Emmanuel Macron has stressed the need for coordinated efforts between the US and Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. This statement has come at a time when US President Donald Trump has announced military intervention under ‘Project Freedom’.

During the summit of European leaders held in Armenia, Macron made it clear that the solution to this sensitive issue is possible only through joint diplomatic efforts. He has also called for caution regarding the current American military initiative.

Macron’s emphasis on coordinated efforts

The French President said that cooperation between America and Iran is very important to open the Strait of Hormuz.

He said,"We first want to reopen the Strait of Hormuz in a coordinated manner by the US and Iran. This is the only solution to reopen the Strait of Hormuz."

Concern expressed over American military initiative

Macron also expressed his apprehensions regarding ‘Project Freedom’ and raised questions on the clarity of the objectives of the mission.

He said,"We will not participate in any military operation whose structure does not seem clear to me."

‘Project Freedom’, announced by US President Donald Trump, is a maritime operation aimed at providing safe passage to international ships stranded in the Strait of Hormuz.
