Many release dates postponed

The film ‘Jana Nayagan’ was initially expected to release on January 9, before the festival of Pongal, but due to legal issues related to the censor certificate, its release date became uncertain. The controversy arose from the political aspects of the story, which portrayed Vijay as the supreme leader and protector of the people. A section of those who opposed the film’s censor certificate argued that it could influence voters ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections held earlier this year.

The matter reached the Madras High Court, leading to several hearings and delay in announcing the film’s release date. More than two months after Vijay won the elections and became the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, the filmmakers finally received certification for the film. The film has recently received an ‘A’ certificate, paving the way for the filmmakers to set the worldwide release date of the film on July 23.
