Mohanlalganj, Lucknow. In the case of a married woman’s suspicious death just four months after her marriage in Hulas Kheda village, under the Mohanlalganj police station area, Mohanlalganj police arrested and jailed her absconding mother-in-law. Earlier, the police had arrested the deceased’s husband and father-in-law and remanded them in judicial custody. With the mother-in-law’s arrest, all three named accused in this high-profile dowry death case are now behind bars.

According to the police, Manoj, a resident of Parwar West in the Bijnor police station area, filed a complaint with the Mohanlalganj police station on July 26th, stating that his daughter Seema was married to Amit Kumar, a resident of Hulas Kheda, on March 7, 2026. It is alleged that after the marriage, her husband Amit Kumar, father-in-law Ramchandra Rawat, and mother-in-law constantly harassed Seema, alleging insufficient dowry, and pressured her to bring two lakh rupees from her parents’ home.

Meanwhile, on July 25th, Seema died under suspicious circumstances. Following the incident, based on a complaint from the woman’s parents, the police registered a case under relevant sections, including dowry death, and began an investigation. During the investigation, the police arrested husband Amit Kumar and father-in-law Ramchandra Rawat on July 28th and sent them to jail, while the mother-in-law absconded.

A police team formed under the direction of Inspector-in-Charge Rambabu Singh and the Mission Shakti team were continuously raiding possible hideouts. On Thursday, the police arrested the absconding mother-in-law and presented her in court, where she was sent to jail in judicial custody.

According to the police, during interrogation, the woman admitted that there were frequent disputes in the family over the low dowry received and that she was pressured to bring additional money. However, she also said that she had no idea that Seema would take such a drastic step as suicide.

Inspector-in-Charge Rambabu Singh stated that no accused will be spared in cases of dowry harassment and crimes against women. Taking impartial action in the case, the absconding accused has been arrested and sent to jail.
