Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay is going to launch such a wonderful welfare scheme on Monday, which everyone is surprised to hear. The name of this scheme has been named 'Thaimaman Thanga Mothiram Thittam', under which the state government will gift a full one gram gold ring to new born children born in government hospitals.
To launch this historic scheme, Chief Minister Vijay will reach Madurai directly by a special flight and will launch it grandly at the Government Rajaji Hospital (GRH). He will personally give gold rings to the first 25 newborns in the auditorium of GRH and will also go straight to the maternity ward to personally give rings to other babies born in the hospital on the same day. According to the rules, a one gram 22-carat gold ring will be given to every eligible newborn born in a government hospital whose mother is a permanent resident of Tamil Nadu.

Let us tell you that this much-awaited scheme was originally scheduled to be launched on September 15, which is the birth anniversary of late Chief Minister CN Annadurai, but it was postponed for some time due to Chief Minister Vijay's visit to London. Now the state government has fixed a huge budget of Rs 755.83 crore annually for this ambitious scheme.
A total of 1.28 lakh gold rings have been prepared under the first phase of this scheme. In the press release issued by the government, it has also been made clear that special and unique serial numbers will be recorded on these gold rings and they will be distributed to the beneficiaries in completely tamper-proof packaging. Although this scheme will be applicable across Tamil Nadu, Maduranthakam and Dharapuram assembly constituencies have been kept out of it for the time being as by-elections are to be held there on October 6.
Who will be eligible for this scheme? Know the conditions
To avail the benefits of this scheme, it is very important that the name of the pregnant women is registered under the 'Pregnancy and Infant Cohort Monitoring and Evaluation' (PICME) system and they should have a valid 'Reproductive and Child Health' (RCH) ID. Eligible beneficiaries will be given the gold ring at the time of discharge from the hospital.
Government sources have informed news agency PTI that this unique scheme will not only strengthen the confidence of the general public towards government health services, but will also give a huge boost to safe deliveries in hospitals. According to statistics, on an average 7.80 lakh children are born every year in Tamil Nadu. According to 'National Family Health Survey-6' (NFHS-6), 99.9 percent of these deliveries take place in health institutions and out of these, about 4.20 lakh i.e. 53 percent deliveries take place in government hospitals alone. Of these, 90 percent deliveries are completed in CEmONC centres.

To smoothly implement this scheme at the local level, keep a close eye on the inventory and maintain complete transparency in the distribution process, a special monitoring committee has been constituted in every district under the chairmanship of the concerned District Collector.
The official contract to supply one gram pure gold rings under 'Thymaman Thanga Mothiram Thittam', one of the biggest promises made by the ruling party TVK before the elections, has been handed over to famous brands like Joyalukkas and Kalyan Jewellers. The government order to implement this scheme was issued on 23 June 2026 itself. During his visit on Monday, Chief Minister Vijay will inaugurate the newly designed Gandhi Memorial Museum in Madurai and take stock of the arrangements there. Apart from this, although there is no official confirmation, there is every possibility of him visiting the famous Meenakshi Sundareshwar Temple, where a grand consecration ceremony was held recently.
