The Bengal Files Release Kolkata: Vivek Agnihotri’s film ‘The Bengal Files’ will be shown in Kolkata from Friday. The film is now being screened months after its release in September last year, when it ran into trouble in West Bengal. This incident came to light when Agnihotri had alleged that the film was being stopped from being shown in the state. Soon after BJP’s Bengal victory, Agnihotri posted on X and talked about how his previous film ‘The Kashmir Files’ was removed from cinema halls. Referring to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, he alleged that it was she who had banned ‘The Bengal Files’. At the same time, people associated with the release of the film said that efforts are being made to show it not only in Kolkata but in theaters across the state.

In his post on X, Agnihotri wrote, ‘Our trailer launch was put on hold. We were attacked and beaten. Dozens of FIRs were registered against me. I was completely sidelined in Bengal. I could not even go to receive my award from the Governor. But we never gave up. During these elections, we ensured that the film reached as many people as possible across Bengal in any way possible. I am glad that we did not give up and even if in our own small way, we fought.

Film releasing in Bengal

According to ‘The Times of India’, Arijit Dutta of Priya Cinemas, who will release the film on Friday, said, ‘A censored film could not be released in Bengal only because of the diktat of one party. People were watching it all over India, but not a single theater in Bengal could show it. There was tremendous curiosity among people about this film. I am happy that now the people of Bengal will also be able to see it. He also quoted distributor Satadeep Saha as saying, ‘Not just Kolkata, we are working on a list of theaters across Bengal.’
