In 1999, during Operation Vijay, a young man, Capt. Jyoti Prakash, who was only 28 years old, was serving as an officer of the Para Unit Regiment in the Mushcon Valley. During the war, the soldiers are fighting relentlessly while facing the enemy’s shelling one after another. At that time he was treating the wounded soldiers in the battlefield. At that time a bomb hit him, he was taken by helicopter to the field surgical center with serious injuries. Captain Jyoti Prakash wants to return to the battlefield immediately after sewing and cleaning the deep wounds and tying bandages. Although other doctors stopped him again and again, he returned to the battlefield in the next helicopter, in a bleeding state, ignoring the severe pain and physical wounds. He started caring for the wounded soldiers again. By risking his own life, he saved the lives of wounded soldiers one after another and prepared another unit for battle. The service of the motherland was greater than the love of one’s own life. As a true paratrooper and soldier-medic, military service and duty came first for him. Today this Captain Jyoti Prakash is a 55 year old Brig. He is currently the Head of the Department of Psychiatry at the Armed Forces Medical College, Pune.
