  • Election Commission of India took a big decision
  • Now SSR schedule will be announced separately later
  • Opportunity to re-register omitted name

New Delhi : In the wake of widespread protests and legal battles across the country over the Special In-depth Revision of Voters' Lists (SIR), the Election Commission of India has taken a major decision. The Election Commission has issued special summary review (SSR) orders of electoral rolls in 17 states and Union Territories. Accordingly, the purpose of this is to include new voters in the lists, to correct the mistakes regarding the voters and to update the list.

The special review drive will be conducted in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Bihar, Punjab, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Kerala, Chhattisgarh, Assam, Goa, Manipur, Puducherry, Lakshadweep and Andaman and Nicobar Islands. In States and Union Territories where SIR is currently underway or has been completed recently, the SSR schedule will be announced separately later. This decision of the commission is considered important for the upcoming assembly elections.

Sonam Wangchuk's entry in SIR movement now! If the leaders are not released by tomorrow… a big warning was given to the government

Meanwhile, the term of the 403-member Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly ends in May 2027. The term of state legislatures of Punjab (117 seats), Uttarakhand (70 seats), Goa (40 seats) and Manipur (60 seats) also ends in March 2027.

Opportunity to re-register omitted name

Even though there is an opportunity for those whose names have been omitted from the draft voter list to submit their proofs and include their name in the voter list, however, most of the voters show disinterest in this. The second phase of SIR i.e. special in-depth inspection campaign is currently underway in the district. At this stage, it is seen that a big problem has arisen in front of the administration. As the voters are not responding even after issuing notices to those whose names have been omitted and holding special camps, the question has arisen as to how to complete the work before the BLs.
