Election Commission Rift : Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar is in the news these days due to alleged differences in the Election Commission and the ongoing debate regarding SIR. Due to which the opposition is attacking BJP and Gyanesh Kumar. Opposition leaders are demanding resignation of Gyanesh Kumar and legal action. In this context, Leader of Opposition in Bihar Assembly Tejashwi Yadav said on Sunday that the Election Commission has become a cancer for the country and democracy.

Tejashwi further said, “If they had won the elections with the help of the public, would they have made the BJP leaders with mass base as Chief Ministers in the victorious states? In the states like Rajasthan, Delhi, Haryana, Bihar, Bengal etc., they have made selected puppets the CMs because Modi-Shah know that they have achieved the so-called victory in these states only with the unwavering support and immense cooperation of the Election Commission and not with the public support!”
What is the whole controversy?
Actually, the Election Commission of India is made up of three people in which apart from the Chief Election Commissioner, there are also two Election Commissioners and all three together take decisions. An investigation by 'The Indian Express' has revealed that two of the three election commissioners have lodged 14 formal objections against the decisions of the Election Commission taken under the leadership of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar in the last 10 months. Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi allege that important decisions were taken without their knowledge or approval. The internal differences center on the 'Special Intensive Revision' (SIR), which is impacting the names of 13 crore voters. Election commissioners challenged 'unauthorised and illegal' changes made to 'Form 6' for new voter registration and raised concerns over “gradual centralisation” of the voter list database through IT divisions.
