The favorite month of Lord Shiva, yet why marriages do not take place in Sawan?
The month of Saavan is considered very special in Sanatan Dharma. In this month people worship Lord Shiva. Also, people worship on Monday in the month of Sawan, due to which the devotees get the blessings of Lord Shiva. While on one hand this month is considered very auspicious for Shiva devotion, on the other hand people do not perform auspicious activities like marriage in this month. Experts of Hindu religion also believe that a person should not get married in this month. According to religious beliefs, Chaturmas starts in the month of Sawan. For this reason, a person should not do auspicious work like marriage this month.
This year the month of Sawan will start from 30th July, which will end on 28th August. Just before this, Chaturmas has started from 25th July. Chaturmas lasts for four months. During this period, people of Hindu religion do not marry. Now the question arises that why does Chaturmas fall in the month of Sawan only? Apart from marriage, what other things cannot people do in this month?

Marriage does not take place in Saavan
According to religious beliefs, the month of Sawan falls during Chaturmas. Many religious experts say that this month Lord Vishnu goes into Yoganidra, that is, he rests for four months. For this reason people do not get married this month. According to religious belief, any marriage is considered complete only when Lord Vishnu blesses the couple. Therefore, people avoid doing auspicious activities like marriage this month. Now the question arises that apart from marriage, what works are prohibited during Chaturmas?
What not to do in Chaturmas?
1. Apart from marriage, devotees should also avoid engagements and tonsure in this month. Also, one should avoid house warming and starting new business in this month.
2. According to religious beliefs, people should avoid eating tamasic food this month. For this reason, people should avoid garlic, onion, meat and alcohol during Chaturmas. Along with this, people should also avoid eating leafy vegetables and some vegetables like brinjal and radish.

3. People should not go out for sightseeing during Chaturmas. According to religious tradition, sages and saints stay at one place and perform penance during this period. For this reason it is believed that people should avoid long journeys.
