The fight is not stopping in Punjab Congress, crisis on Raja Wadding’s chair?
Amidst the ongoing conflict in Punjab Congress, Charanjit Channi faction is continuously maintaining pressure on the party central leadership regarding its demands and this faction will maintain its pressure. Of course, party in-charge Bhupesh Baghel has met Channi and his group leaders in Chandigarh on Saturday (July 11) and will give his report to the central leadership. But the Channi group will maintain pressure on Amarinder Singh demanding the removal of Raja Vading.
Charanjit Channi can also meet the leaders of his group on Monday (July 13). However, this will not be a large level meeting. But before Bhupesh Baghel’s report is submitted to the central leadership and before the decision is taken by the leadership, the Channi group wants to maintain pressure and hence Channi will continue the series of meetings with his supporting leaders.
In the meeting held on Saturday (July 11), 15 leaders of Channi faction had presented their views to Baghel. In this everyone had demanded that Raja Wadding should be removed from the post of Punjab Congress President. Channi had also taken consent to this demand by getting the leaders to show their hands. At present, the ongoing dispute in Punjab Congress is not showing any sign of stopping.
On Saturday, many leaders demanded the replacement of state president Amarinder Singh Raja Wading, while party general secretary in-charge of the state Bhupesh Baghel claimed that no one has any objection to the party high command’s decision to give another term to the current president.
The Congress had on July 1 announced that Amarinder Singh Raja Wading would continue as the president of the party’s Punjab unit and Channi, MP from Jalandhar, has been appointed as the chairman of the election campaign committee. Channi, who is said to be angry at not being made the state president, had not met Baghel till now. Baghel had reached Punjab on Monday and after this he held meetings with many leaders and officials of the state.
Many leaders close to Channi also stayed away from these meetings. According to sources, the rebel group showed its strength in the nearly 80-minute meeting on Saturday – attended by over 80 leaders, including at least 12 MLAs – and put forward to Baghel that they were not in favor of retaining Vadding as the state unit chief.
