Long-term The Office fans can soon take a break from reruns of the celebrated sitcom, as its spin-off is returning to the small screen in a few weeks. The Paper, set roughly 20 years after its predecessor, will release its second season exactly one year after its premiere.
The Paper Season 2 release date is just a month away
Similar to its debut chapter, whose release date occurred towards the start of fall in 2025, The Paper Season 2 is on track to hit the shelves of Peacock next month. Led by Domhnall Gleeson once again, the second season of the mockumentary sitcom will air all of its scheduled episodes on Wednesday, September 9, simultaneously.
The Office spin-off follows the same documentary crew that chronicled the day-to-day shenanigans of the workers at Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton, Pennsylvania branch. Only this time, the team arrives at a historic Midwestern newspaper called Toledo Truth Teller that is struggling to make ends meet. Consisting of an optimistic editor-in-chief, a bunch of passionate journalists, as well as some not-so-competent staff members, the publication navigates through the chaos of an under-funded workplace, giving way to several amusing but wholesome moments.
Most of the stars who featured predominantly in The Paper’s debut season will be making a return in its follow-up edition. In addition to Gleeson, Season 2’s cast also includes Sabrina Impacciatore, Chelsea Frei, Melvin Gregg, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Alex Edelman, Ramona Young, Tim Key, Eric Rahill, Duane Shepard Sr., and Oscar Nuñez, with the latter once again reprising his role from The Office.
The Paper has so far managed to exceed expectations, garnering an 85% Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes, which narrowly beats The Office’s 81% rating. However, the spin-off has a lot of catching up to do on the audience front, with The Paper’s 70% Popcornmeter rating falling well short of its predecessor’s 89% score.
