Kolkata. West Bengal Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Manoj Aggarwal has been appointed the Chief Secretary of the BJP government led by state Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari. This information was given in an official order issued on Monday.

According to the order, Aggarwal, a 1990 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of West Bengal cadre, had led the special intensive review (SIR) conducted by the Election Commission ahead of the assembly elections. Names of about 91 lakh voters were removed from the voter list during SIR.

The order said that current Chief Secretary Dushyant Nariyala has been appointed as Principal Local Commissioner in New Delhi. The Election Commission had removed Nandini Chakraborty from the post of Chief Secretary and appointed 1993 batch IAS officer Nariyala to this post.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has formed the government for the first time in the state. In the recently held assembly elections, BJP gave a crushing defeat to Trinamool Congress. In the elections for the 294-member assembly, BJP won 207 seats while TMC was reduced to 80 seats.
