Skoda Slavia Facelift: Will enter India on August 18, the mood of the sedan will change with new avatar and 8-speed gearbox.

Automobile Desk: To further strengthen the credibility of the premium sedan segment in the Indian automobile market, Skoda is going to introduce a new facelift model of its popular car Slavia. The company will officially unveil the Skoda Slavia Facelift on August 18. The company has recently released the first glimpse of this car which was being seen during testing for a long time. Since this is the mid-life update of the Slavia, instead of major changes to the basic structure of the car, there will be a design refresh, enhanced cabin features and a major gearbox update at the mechanical level.

New aggressive look will be seen in the exterior

It is clear from the recently revealed spy pictures and official teaser that the exterior design of the new Slavia has been made more attractive. Its front profile will feature newly designed headlamps, revised fog lamp housing and a new sporty bumper. The grille of the car has also been designed in a new fresh look, which may include integrated lighting elements. This front look largely matches the facelift incarnation of Skoda's Kushaq. Apart from this, new alloy wheels will be used to give a new look to the side profile.

Cabin ambiance and new features

Talking about the interior, the company may keep the layout of the dashboard the same, but to improve the overall experience of the cabin, a new color theme and premium upholstery will be provided. The driver console is likely to get a large 10.25-inch fully digital display. It is also expected that the company may add massage function for the rear seats, which was recently introduced in the Kushaq facelift.

Additionally, key features found in the existing model like electric sunroof, wireless phone charger, automatic climate control, 6 airbags and tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) will also be retained in the new facelift variant.

Major update of powertrain and 8-speed gearbox

Talking about engine options, the existing powerful engine lineup will be continued in the new Slavia:

1.0-litre turbo-petrol: This engine generates maximum power of 115hp. The biggest change will be seen in the automatic transmission along with the 6-speed manual. The company is going to replace the old 6-speed torque converter with a new 8-speed AQ300 automatic gearbox.

1.5-litre turbo-petrol: This more powerful engine producing 150hp will continue to be available with a 7-speed DCT (dual-clutch) gearbox and a 6-speed manual option.

Possible price and who will compete

Currently, the ex-showroom price of Skoda Slavia ranges from ₹10 lakh to ₹18.19 lakh. Due to cosmetic and gearbox updates in the new facelift model, there is expected to be a slight increase in its prices. After its launch in the Indian market, this car will have direct competition with Hyundai Verna, Honda City and its own sibling car Volkswagen Virtus as before.
