What else do we know about the new Fake Skating movie?
Fake Skating is based on Lynn Painter’s bestselling young adult novel. The story follows Alec and Dani Collin, childhood sweethearts who have grown apart but find themselves entering a fake relationship for very different reasons.
Alec is dealing with unwanted attention from NHL scouts after an embarrassing social media incident threatens to damage his reputation. He agrees to pretend to date Dani as part of a plan to improve his public image.
Dani also has something to get from the arrangement. She is on Harvard’s waitlist and needs a team manager credential to improve her chances of admission. The two agree to the fake relationship, expecting it to remain strictly business.
That plan becomes harder to follow as their old connection resurfaces and their pretend relationship develops into something more serious.
Will Gluck, director of Anyone But You, is producing the movie through Olive Bridge Entertainment alongside Jacqueline Monetta. Madison Jones and Painter are executive producers.
Morgan Lehmann and Victoria Bata wrote the original screenplay. Boone and his writing partner, Knate Lee, later worked on revisions.
Casting for Dani is still underway. Sony and Columbia Pictures have set Fake Skating for a theatrical release on July 16, 2027.
