The target of purchasing 78 lakh metric tons of wheat, now the government demands from the Center to increase the quota as the production increases.

Amidst the record production of wheat in Madhya Pradesh, the government has sought additional quota from the Central Government to increase the target of procurement at support price. Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav said that in view of the increasing number of farmers and higher production, the current target of 78 lakh metric tons may fall short.

Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has said that in view of the better production of wheat in the state, continuous discussions are being held with the Central Government to increase the target of procurement at support price. He said that the Government of India has given a target of purchasing 78 lakh metric tonnes of wheat to Madhya Pradesh for the Rabi marketing year 2026-27, but due to high production, this target is likely to be exceeded.

The Chief Minister said that this year 19.04 lakh farmers have registered to sell wheat at support price, which is about 3 lakh more than last year. So far, 95.17 lakh quintals of wheat has been purchased from 2.21 lakh farmers. Out of these, 75.57 lakh quintals of wheat has also been transported. The government has so far paid Rs 1091.33 crore to 1.06 lakh farmers selling wheat.

The Chief Minister said that due to the war in West Asia, there was a problem of gunny bags in the initial phase, but the government solved the problem by arranging for jute bags, PP bags and other alternatives. At present sufficient gunny bags are available for purchase. Wheat is being purchased from farmers in the state at a total rate of Rs 2625 per quintal including support price of Rs 2585 per quintal and bonus of Rs 40.
