‘Theft’ of mandate in Assam-Bengal
Bureau Prayagraj. Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi claimed that the “theft of mandate” in Assam and West Bengal is a major step taken as part of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s “mission” to destroy the country’s democracy. He said this needs to be understood well by “some people” in the Congress and others who are rejoicing over the defeat of the Trinamool Congress in West Bengal.
BJP is going to form the government for the first time by winning 206 seats in the West Bengal Assembly elections. He has scored a hat-trick of victories in Assam. “Some people in Congress and others are rejoicing over TMC’s defeat. They need to understand clearly that the theft of the mandate of Assam and Bengal is a big step by BJP in its mission to destroy Indian democracy,” Rahul Gandhi posted on X.
“Keep petty politics aside, this is not about one party or the other, it is about India,” he said. Outgoing West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had on Monday claimed that the BJP has “looted” 100 seats in West Bengal. Rahul Gandhi had supported her claim and alleged that with the help of the Election Commission, the BJP had stolen elections in Assam and West Bengal.
