What did Jitan Ram Manjhi say?
Jitan Ram Manjhi replied in a very measured and sharp manner to the media’s question that the opposition is making a strategy to remove Gyanesh Kumar. He clarified that such things are mere speculations without any solid basis or official information.
He pointed out that even though the opposition may be holding closed-door meetings to remove or impeach the Chief Election Commissioner, it is not so easy to remove someone from a constitutional post, and the reality of these meetings is limited to mere empty claims.
Congress Working Committee meeting
In the Congress Working Committee meeting held in Delhi on Tuesday, a very strong and big resolution was passed against the Modi government and the Election Commission. In the meeting, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge termed the Chief Election Commissioner as a “puppet” of the government and said that he has no right to hold the post. He demanded that Gyanesh Kumar be immediately removed from the post. At the same time, Rahul Gandhi claimed that Gyanesh Kumar will have to step down from the post and his resignation is certain.
Kharge alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah were putting pressure on the Election Commission. He said that PM Modi should resign on moral grounds for putting such pressure on institutions.
The Congress alleged that the process of Special Intensive Review (SIR) being conducted by the Election Commission is completely illegal, under which the names of crores of legitimate voters (especially the youth) have been removed from the voter list as part of a conspiracy across the country. Congress demanded that this process be immediately suspended and the deleted names be restored.
