News India Live, Digital Desk: Amidst the heated atmosphere of Lok Sabha elections 2024, a recent speech of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has sparked a new debate. Now about 700 intelligent citizens of the country have approached the Election Commission (ECI) regarding his statement given in Banswara, Rajasthan. These citizens claim that the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) has been violated in the Prime Minister’s address.
What is the whole matter? Citizens’ demand increased the stir
This letter written to the Election Commission has signatures of former bureaucrats, writers, journalists and social workers. The complainants argue that the remarks made by the Prime Minister in his speech regarding a particular community are against the rules of the election code of conduct. The letter demands that the Commission should conduct an impartial investigation in this matter and ensure appropriate action so that the sanctity of the elections is maintained.
Opposition’s attack and question of constitutional propriety
Opposition parties have also started cornering the government on this issue. The complaint mainly emphasizes that during the election campaign, polarizing language on the basis of any class or religion should not be used. The citizens’ group has urged the Election Commission to use its powers to stop such speeches.
Big challenge before the Election Commission
Now all eyes are on the Election Commission to see what stand it takes on this huge complaint. Usually the Commission analyzes the complete video recording and text of the speech on such complaints. If the Commission prima facie feels that there has been a violation of the rules, a notice is issued to the concerned leader. At present, this matter has created a stir in the political circles and even on social media, people are seen divided into two sides.
